Remembering Gerald Mac Mckenzie: A Goema Superstar

Gerald Mac McKenzie, was a composer and bassist who changed Cape Town's Goema music tradition forever. McKenzie grew up in the city's carnival culture and he helped form The Genuines, combining styles like rock, punk, classical and jazz with the music of his childhood. We got together with my musical guest, musician, songwriter and educator including and friend of "Mac," Leslie Javan, to pay homage to this son of the soil and forever preserve the memories of his contributions to this indigenous South African sonic.
