Annette Johnson

A writer at heart.

About Me

I explore writing about jazz in an improvisational style that readers enjoy, while learning about jazz and jazzmen and women.

Jazz is certainly a common denominator among nations and nationalities. One can always find a jazz club and other jazz fans wherever one goes, feel right at home. It is America's gift to the world!

I am the author of A Jazzman's Tale, about bebop pianist and trumpeter Charles Freeman Lee, alumnus of Wilberforce Collegians, as were Benny Carter, Ben Webster, Frank Foster and others. A Jazzman's Tale is available on amazon.com , barnesandnoble.com and other online sources.

My Jazz Story

My advice to new listeners - Choose an instrument and listen to different jazzmen over the years. E.g. Piano - listen to Art Tatum, Duke Ellington, Oscar Peterson, Bud Powell and Thelonious Monk. Feel and understand each jazzman's style, stance, then go to their compositions, live performances - a lot on youtube. If you are moved by what you hear, you are a jazz fan! It's that simple.
