My Jazz Story

I love jazz because it celebrates the passion and consciousness of folks reconciling personal and cultural pain and redemption. I was first exposed to jazz at age 6 at the Detroit Jazz Festival I met Lightnin' Hopkins, John Lee Hooker, Big Joe Turner, Nicole Mitchell, Carla Bley, Don Was, and a bunch of other folks. The best show I ever attended was too many to name, all the Sun Ra shows. The first jazz record I bought Broadway My Way Nancy Wilson My advice to new listeners open your heart and minds, ignore genre, dismiss noone, and breathe. Or whatever else you have in mind.
