David Rocheleau-Houle

Philosopher and avid listener of jazz, classical, and contemporary music.

About Me

I am a Ph.D. student in philosophy, doing research in theoretical ethics. I am now living in Montréal, and in the past ten years I lived in Québec City and in Toronto. My first encounter with jazz was during a live performance, in my hometown, of a trio led by Michel Donato, when I was about 13 or 14 years old. I have always been a very curious listener, and I had the chance to grow up in a house full of CDs. I started listening seriously to jazz and classical music as a first-year undergraduate student in Québec City, and I started writing my thoughts on music a few years ago on my personal blog.

My Jazz Story

I was first exposed to jazz when I was young, going through my mother's partner's music collection. The best show I ever attended was by Phronesis (in Montreal, 2015). My advice to new listeners is to be patient.
